Coalition Urges FERC Nominees to Put Consumers First and Back Electricity Transmission Competition
WASHINGTON – The Electricity Transmission Competition Coalition, a diverse coalition of consumers and businesses today welcomed the nomination of three new commissioners by President Biden to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). If confirmed, the nominees would restore FERC to a full complement ensuring that the agency can operate with efficiency.
“It is important that FERC has a full suite of commissioners to ensure that one of the most important agencies affecting the energy landscape continues to function well,” said Paul Cicio, Chair of the Electricity Transmission Competition Coalition. “I urge the nominees to put consumers first and support electricity transmission competition, which is the key to fulfilling FERC’s mandate of providing affordable and reliable electricity.”
Cicio added, “FERC’s role is more important than ever with spending on transmission set to grow and pro-competition commissioners will be key to ensuring that upgrades to the grid come at the lowest cost to consumers.”
