ETCC Statement on Defeat of Wisconsin ROFR Bill AB 470

Statement from ETCC Chair Paul Cicio on the defeat of Wisconsin ROFR AB 470:

“The defeat of this Right of First Refusal law is a victory for consumers in Wisconsin who would have seen their electricity bills go up for years to come while monopoly utilities increased their profits. The ROFR bill was anti-consumer and anti-free market. Competition has been proven to lower costs for consumers by using the free market to drive down costs and deliver more affordable and reliable electricity to households and businesses. Across the country we have seen legislators, judges, and governors protect consumer and embrace competition by rejecting these ROFR bills, and Wisconsin’s example should be followed by other states and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as it nears its decision on transmission planning.”
